The Gift of Waiting

Posted on December 5, 2016 by kathyahutto

(Day 1 of a three part series on Waiting)
Waiting is tough.
It takes more courage to wait than it does to act.  This time of year is a stark reminder that the Israelites waited 700 years after Isaiah wrote chapter 9 for Messiah.  They died, their children died, and generations came and went as they waited.  What did they do while they were waiting? Day after Day they lived, served, walked out their purpose.  And then the wait was over – Jesus was born.
We are in the next waiting period – waiting for Jesus to return.  What do we do in the wait?  Day after day, we live, serve, walk out our purpose.  It’s all – all of it – part of His plan.  God knew before and it’s always been a part of His plan.
Waiting is a Gift.
When we are personally going through a time of waiting, it’s tough.  But God knew before and He has a plan for this too – whatever it is you’re waiting for.  Isaiah 8:21 says, “They will pass through it hard-pressed and hungry; and it shall happen, when they are hungry, that they will be enraged and curse their king and their God, and look upward.”(NKJV)
Paul said in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.’”
God has a plan and is in control of everything, even our trials.  They can point us upward and then be used to point others to Him.  We can rejoice in them because they provide opportunities for God to show He’s right there.  Waiting is a grace.  It’s a gift.  How special you should feel if you are going through a tough time of waiting.  God wants you to know and experience His presence in this moment.
