Psalm 139, The Sand Lesson

Posted on September 14, 2011September 24, 2022 by kathyahutto

Psalm 139:  17-18

How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God!  How great is the sum of them!  If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand:  When I awake, I am still with thee.

For our morning devotion before beginning our homeschool lessons, I poured a tiny bit of colored sand in the palm of my hand and let the kids each dip a finger into the sand and put what stuck their fingertip onto the table.  I told them to count the grains of sand.  My son counted about 70 pieces and may daughter counted about 50.  This was just the amount of sand on one fingertip!  Can you image the number of grains that David was talking about in Psalm 139!  How precious are God’s thoughts unto us…more than the sand!  What a great thought!

It would be neat to fill small, cellophane bags with sand and tie with ribbon and attach this verse.  These could be given to your Sunday School class or to your WMU or women’s group, etc.

BTW…we usually have our morning devotion at the breakfast table.  It gets our day started off on the right foot!
