Prayer of Confession for Marriage

Today is July 4th.  This marks the day when our country declared that the thirteen American colonies regarded themselves as a new nation .  John Adams wrote, “It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.”
I can’t help but take a moment to reflect back on what our country was like then.  Fast forward and look at us now.
Let’s mark this as the day when once again we take a stand.  Once again let this be a day of deliverance.  May we act out of devotion to God Almighty.
-Please join me in praying this prayer of confession (making an admission) for marriage.-
Dear God,
Mark 10:6-9 says, But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh.  What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
We confess that our country has lost sight of the sacred design you have for marriage.
We confess that the majority of couples now treat their marriage covenant like it’s optional. They don’t hold fast to each other and stand against whatever tries to separate them.
We confess that we have re-defined the very definition of marriage.  No longer is marriage defined as the union between a male and female.  But, the highest court in our land has decided this definition is just an option.
Nehemiah 9:2 says, “And the Israelites separated themselves from all foreigners and stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers.”
Like the Israelites, we confess the iniquities of our country.
2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
We come praying and seeking Your face.  Please help us to wake up and realize our sin and turn from wrong ways.  We believe Your promise – that You will forgive and heal when we do this.
Please have mercy on America.
