Good morning! I hope you joined me live this morning over at Youtube at 6:00AM. If you missed it, you can watch the recorded live stream as well as today’s video for Genesis 1.
Here’s the reading plan for this week with some notes from my Journal. Please don’t let the notes take the place of your own time with the Lord. Let His Word speak to you directly. Share what you write in your own Journal in the comments section, if you’d like.
Monday – Read Genesis 1
My journal notes: God spoke it and it was so! Powerful. Creation points to order and design. I believe that creation happened in six literal days. For those who don’t, do you think He could not? This was not too hard for Him.
Verse 26 – Mentions “Us” which refers to the trinity. Jesus was physically with God in heaven from the beginning. When Jesus came to dwell on earth, He was away from the physical presence of God. As a mother with a son who just graduated high school and starting college soon, I know how hard that must have been. Just one more way for us to know how much He loves us – to send His Son away from Himself and doing so knowing what He’d endure.
Verse 29 – God gave them every herb; every tree.
Verse 30 – Animals also at herbs.
Answers in Genesis is a great resource for information on six literal days of Creation.
Tuesday – Read Genesis 2
My Journal Notes: Genesis 2:9, says “every tree” grew that was pleasant to the sight and good for food. The forbidden tree wasn’t any more pleasant/good. The garden was filled with equivalent trees in that respect.
I love Adam’s response to Eve. It was that of pure delight. (Genesis 2:23)
Verse 24 is so interesting since they had no father and mother. But, Moses wrote Genesis later.
Wednesday – Read Genesis 3
My Journal Notes: “Has God indeed said…” Satan is still “has God indeed said-ing” it all over the place today! An article I wrote for a Christian publication was edited recently to state that I had Biblical grounds to move on after my husband left, but that’s not my conviction based on what I read in Scripture.
Louie Giglio had his finger on the pulse of society when he pointed out the fatherless generation during the Passion conference in Atlanta in January. He asked those who’d grown up in homes without a father to stand. So many stood. These were predominantly Christian kids at a Christian conference.
These have been recent eye openers for me.
Christians must come back to the standard-the Bible.
Thursday – Read Genesis 4
Cain’s offering was direct disobedience stemming from pride – to think he didn’t have to obey God. Smells of “did God indeed say” again.
Verse 6 -7 – Wow! Instruction straight from the Lord to Cain. “Sin lies at the door and it’s desire is for you…but you should rule over it.”
God walked with Adam and Eve physically in the Garden. I wonder how He spoke to Cain. Did He visit him?
Verse 8 – Cain said to Abel, Let’s go to the field, suggesting this was premeditated.
Verse 19 – The first mention of taking two wives. Look who his great, great, great granddad was – Cain. Legacy is important. I believe there is a target on Daddy’s. Daddy’s matter.
Verse 26 – Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.
Friday – Read Genesis 5
The first humans lived 800, 900 years. They ate pure fruits and vegetables.
Enoch, like Elijah, did not die, but was taken to heaven. What an amazing closeness he must have had with God. “He pleased God.” Hebrews 11:5
Methuselah lived the longest of anyone on earth. His father had prophesied about the coming judgment of God. Some have suggested his name means, “when he dies, judgement will come.” If so, it points to God’s mercy in allowing him to live so long.
Jude 14-15, “…The Lord comes…to execute judgement…to convict all ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed…harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”
Methuselah died the same year as the flood. For more on that, see Answers in Genesis.
