Memory Verse: …The Lord bless you and keep you… Number 16:24
Bible Story:
Today is Mother’s Day. Our lesson today is about a very special mother.
Show the story picture.
Tell the children to point to the baby in the picture. Tell them His name is Jesus, and invite them to say “Jesus.”
Tell the children to point to the mommy in the picture. This is Jesus’ mother. Her name was Mary.
Have the children pretend to cradle a baby in their arms.
The Bible teaches us some things about Mary:
• Mary praised God – When Mary found out that God had chosen her to be the mother of His one and only Son, she was so happy! She sang a song of praise! Read Luke 1:46, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”
• Mary loved Jesus and Jesus loved her – Mary was there at the cross when Jesus was crucified. She loved Jesus and He loved her. Read John 19:25-27, “but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother…When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, ‘Woman, behold, your son!’ Then he said to the disciple, ‘Behold, your mother!’ And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.”
• Mary prayed – After Jesus died on the cross and rose, Mary continued to pray. Acts 1:14, “All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.”
Games:
Play “Mother Says” instead of “Simon Says.”
Role Play: Practice Being a Good Mother – Bring in baby dolls, clothes, towels, wash cloths, soap, diapers, etc. Show the children how to take care of a baby.
Craft: Mother’s Day Card-paint tulips using plastic forks on a card that reads, “Thanks for helping me grow!”
