First, let me disclose that I don’t currently have a Netflix account. I have in the past, but I do not currently. If I did, I would Unsubscribe tonight.
The reason I would has to do with an article I just read. Netflix’s chief content officer had this to say in response to the Fetal Heartbeat law that was recently passed in Georgia:
“We have many women working on productions in Georgia, whose rights, along with millions of others, will be severely restricted by this law. It’s why we will work with the ACLU and others to fight it in court.” (Fox)
I recently blogged about being proud of Georgia for taking a stand against abortion. You can read that here.
If Netflix has chosen to work with the ACLU and others to fight the law in court, then I don’t want any of my dollars to go indirectly toward fighting for abortion.
The chief content officer of Netflix went on to say, “Given the legislation has not yet been implemented, we’ll continue to film there — while also supporting partners and artists who choose not to. Should it ever come into effect, we’d rethink our entire investment in Georgia.” (Fox)
Netflix made it clear that once this law goes into effect in 2020, it will boycott Georgia. So, is it time to boycott Netflix?
