Benefits of Being Homeschooled

Posted on April 24, 2021April 24, 2021 by kathyahutto

Many kids found themselves homeschooled this schoolyear for obvious reason, and while some might have considered that unfortunate, let me encourage you with 5 benefits of being homeschooled.

Homeschooled kids are well rounded. Most are involved in extracurricular activities outside the home such as music classes, theater clubs, and sports.

Homeschooled kids are socialized. Most are involved in extracurricular activities including summer camps and church youth groups. Often they play an even more active role; coming early to assist in set up or to be trained to help in the audio/tech booth. This became even more crucial recently since many church services were online. Homeschooled kids assisted with video recordings and worship livestreams. They were invaluable in helping the Body of Christ continue to gather online.

Homeschooled kids have more time to work on their interests. God has a plan for all kids. He has placed interests and natural abilities in them that will help them carry out His purposes. Homeschooled students have more time to explore those interests. Online elective courses like photography, cooking, and graphic design are a few. They enter photography and writing contests, as well as hone their skills independently. They help teach younger siblings. They plan menus and help cook for their family. They take care of animals such as pets, horses, or rabbits.

Homeschooled kids are hard workers. The work ethic of homeschooled kids is incredible. As they grow older, many take on greater responsibilities around the home in addition to completing schoolwork. Many work at part time jobs, often during the day time hours when other kids aren’t available which allows them to learn versatility in completing school work at unconventional times. They learn to manage their time wisely and balance their activities. They understand the value of managing and saving money.

Homeschooled kids are entrepreneurs. Babysitting, cutting grass, selling produce and hand-made items at the local Market, starting online businesses and Youtube channels are just a few ways that homeschoolers have proven they are know how to make money! Far more homeschoolers than you might realize run their own businesses, even before they finish high school.

I am so thankful that my children were homeschooled. My son is now in college. My daughter finished her high school courses early and now dual enrolls in college courses as a Junior. Both are well-rounded. They even host a Monday night game night for their friends. Both are incredibly hard workers. My son leaves before the sun comes up to help prepare for church services in the Tech Dept – the first to arrive and often the last to leave. My daughter plans special events for us and others. She bakes and sells the most delicious chocolate pecan pies from scratch around the holidays. Both have small businesses. My son has a DJ business, working at proms and weddings. My daughter is working toward being an Instagram Fashion Influencer and has a Youtube Channel. You can check that out here and please Subscribe.

If you found your children homeschooled this past school year, consider it a blessing! Perhaps you might even see the long term benefits and continue to homeschool. It has been the greatest privilege of my life to watch them thrive and grow.
