I just posted a video where I show you how EASY it is to teach a child to READ. I start with the letters sounds, but really focus in on the vowels. After all, every word in the English language MUST have at least one vowel!
Years ago, I created the Vowel People when homeschooling my daughter and teaching her to read. I incorporated the letter into a picture with a story and Viola! It stuck!
You can watch the video where I talk about this method here:
And if you want a copy of the Vowel People Puppets and all the Special Sounds flashcards, you can get those here:
Once your child knows the letter sounds, they can begin to blend with them! Then, it’s just a matter of adding a third letter to create a CVC word (consonant, vowel, consonant) and your child is reading! Practice, practice, practice! Then add in the special sounds and rules, such as, “When two vowels are walking, the first one does the talking and the second one is silent.”
You can get ALL the Vowel People and Special Sounds flashcards in the Reading is for Everyone resource above.
Through the years, I changed “Baby A” to a sneeze! It’s a lot more fun to practice and the kids love it, which really makes it stick!
Here’s that flashcard! It won’t be in the resource above. 🙂
