Homemade Volcano Supplies for Friday’s Circle Time

Posted on November 1, 2020November 1, 2020 by kathyahutto

If you’re joining me for my daily Circle Time classes on Youtube, you may want to gather the supplies to make a homemade volcano before Friday (November 6, 2020).

Volcano Supplies:

Plate with a lip

small cup

tin foil

vinegar

baking soda

red food coloring (optional)

Here’s how we will do it:

  • Secure the bottom of the paper cup to the middle of a plate using tape.
  • Place a square of tin foil over the cut and form it around to look like a volcano.
  • Use a pencil to poke a hole in the foil and push it down into the top of the cup.  Secure with tape to the cup, otherwise the lava just oozes under to tin foil instead of out over the top.
  • Fill the cup halfway with baking soda.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring to the soda.  We used a toothpick to stir.
  • Fill a 2TBS medicine cup with vinegar and when ready, pour in!

(My kids decided to add a chess pawn piece with a face drawn on for dramatic effect!  They got a big kick out of watching the “hot lava” ooze out on him!! Lol!)
